Career Ownership. Private by Design.
Refine.tools is a local-first workspace for career documents, job-search tracking, and sensitive decisions that should not require an unnecessary account database.
Local-First DB
Dashboard data lives in your browser (IndexedDB). If you clear site data, it's gone unless you export a backup.
Optional BYOK
AI tools include limited free usage. An optional browser-stored OpenAI key can use your own allowance; server routes do not retain it.
No Resume Database
We don't sell your resume or job-search data to recruiters. AI requests are processed transiently to produce the result.
Why "Refine"?
Most career tools are "Candidate Management Systems" in disguise—designed to package you up for recruiters. Refine is a practical workspace for improving your own career materials and keeping local notes organized.
It started as a simple resume rewriter and evolved into a focused set of tools for documents, applications, outreach, and compensation planning.
Telemetry and AI Processing
Refine.tools does not load third-party analytics or performance telemetry in the global app shell. Dashboard records remain local to your browser unless you export them.
Refine.tools records a small set of first-party aggregate events, such as an application being created, a workflow step being completed, a local document being saved, or a response to an optional paid-capability research prompt. These daily counts do not contain pasted text, generated output, application identifiers, API keys, email addresses, raw IP addresses, or a persistent visitor identifier. A fixed prompt response may be kept in this browser to avoid asking again. Aggregate counts are retained for up to 400 days to evaluate whether the product is useful.
When you use an AI tool, the submitted text is sent through a server route to the model provider so the output can be generated. Refine.tools does not write that submitted text, your optional API key, or the generated output to an application database. Operational logs contain route and failure metadata, not document content. Aggregate counters include the model, route, funding source, and provider-reported token totals so service cost can be managed.
OpenAI processes provider requests under its own API data controls and retention terms. Avoid submitting information you do not need for the requested result.
When the feedback control is available, its message, optional email, rating, and page path are sent to a private Discord-compatible feedback inbox. Do not include resume text, API keys, or other sensitive details.
